Preparing to be Prepared

If you are new to prepping, you should take some time to research and think about how to approach the topic of preparedness. Think about the potential causes of death or injury, and find tools and products that will help you live through the disaster, aka SURVIVE.

So, instead of grabbing a list of things you should buy from the internet, and wasting money on things with limited use, determine which natural disaster you preparing to survive, and think of the tools that would actually work for your purposes.

Here are some questions you should be asking yourself so that your prep planning will give you the results you're looking for.

Who Are You Prepping For?

Are you single? Do you have a family with small children? Do you have elderly parents with health and mobility issues? Your personal needs and abilities and the needs and abilities of those around you should be at the forefront of your mind while planning and prepping. Imagine how the tools you choose will be used in an emergency, and if you need to educate yourself or practice using them, make sure you do that. Tools are of no use if you don't know how to use them, and during a disaster is no time to figure things out.

Where Are You?

History has shown that disasters can happen anywhere, even in places you couldn't imagine they would ever happen. However, most natural and manmade disasters tend to occur in certain geographical areas. Coastal areas are more prone to weather extremes like hurricanes and flooding. Urban/Wildland interfaces are more likely to see wildfires. It should be noted that a water crisis can happen anywhere, which is why a Hendrx Air to Water Generator is such a valuable tool for safe, clean water.

What Is Your Main Focus For Prepping?

Take some time to think about the reason you are prepping. Often, people who have lived through a disaster are traumatized and therefor highly sensitive to another occurrence. But, if you were once the victim of a fire, is that all you’re preparing for in the future?

Focus on being logical. Determine which products will achieve your desired goal. You want to survive a fire? Then focus on the tools that will defend you from the causes of death in a fire. 80% of people who die in fire, die from smoke inhalation. A fire escape mask will remove that risk and give you 60 minutes of clean air to breath. People suffer from sever burns caused by running through a fire, 1000 degrees centigrade boots will protect your feet from the heat and flame and allow you to run. A fire blanket will help you avoid burns on your torso. If you live in a high-risk fire zone, you may find that a portable fire shelter may be your only option for survival.

The standard advice from experienced preppers is to take a slow, methodical approach to the events that could realistically affect you and your loved ones.

Are You Prepared for the Best?

The prepper’s mantra is: prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It’s worth being a student of history to understand how and when disasters occur and how they resolve.

We've learned that relying on warning systems and human judgement can fail us. But if we do our homework and keep an open mind, we can put together a common-sense plan for preparedness that won’t leave us at the mercy of events.
